The roguelike genre has been around for more than 20 years, during which commercial games, fully powered with the latest advancements on graphics and sounds technology, have been in constant evolution.

Even so, the 80 x 25 ASCII characters console has never given up, and her games have kept a fan-base of devote players and determined roguelike developers, whom generation after generation strive to keep the genre alive, generating new ideas and implementing them in their project for the delight of the player who is able to overcome the need of a layer of graphics between himself and the game.

The path is not easy… many start enthusiastic, little have something to appraise, even less have an enjoyable end product. Still, these games are worth their weight in bytes, as you will find out when you get into one and are addicted for years!

However, do not be fooled. These games are not meant to be played just by hardcore geeks… even if you are a casual or last generation gamer and you enjoy commercial products with full-fledged immersive capacities, you will find in roguelikes a new option of gaming that may peacefully coexist with your habits; the only change is you are in charge of getting immersed yourself, and that may happen even quicker than you think.

    We wanted to create a new heroic fantasy boardgame, customizable and adaptable to many differents gameplays.
    With a base mechanic borrowed from games like Desktop Dungeons and Diggers, we offer 3 games in one, keeping in sight the tactical aspect for each player’s move.

    To keep the game interest up, players can share their own levels online, and must explore each side of the game to unlock all dice sets.

    A special hidden mode (the Void), allows you to repeat the game on hardcore mode, with alternate monsters colors.

    Paper Dungeons is a 2D Puzzle RPG, boosted by online content.
    The game is visualised as a classic board game. You can destroy walls and auto-heal as you uncover new dungeon tiles.
    With the ability to create and share online your own levels, you are up for an infinite replay value.

    – 3 different and original gameplays: ADVENTURE, PUZZLE and ROGUE.
    – Big campaign with 125 Adventure levels and 31 Puzzle levels.
    – 5 classes of character (Warrior/Archer/Cleric/Mage/Thief), male and female, with a unique gameplay. Different attack ranges/deities/damage types/power spells.
    – Improve your characters by collecting dozens of dice sets.
    – A total of 84 different monsters! 3 sizes of dungeon, 4 different starting zones and special boss stages.
    – A comprehensive EDITOR, to create your own levels and publish them online.
    – ONLINE LEVELS feature, to play user’s created content in Adventure or Puzzle Game modes.

    The game is still evolving: our next goal is to expand the game mechanic, with 3 multiplayers game mode.
    A boardgame always feels more enjoyable when played with friends, so we are currently working on a 2 players co-op mode and a 1-4 players PvP mode, to test out those sweet hard-earned dice against other players.

    We will also implement an innovative DMASTER mode (1 player vs 4 others) : the Dungeon Master controls the monsters, traps and walls, and will be able to unlock special dice sets for his monsters.
