Dungeon Creation Contest

Icey’s cool townTarindel has announced a roguelike development contest to be held at his new forums… the goal? to write a cool dungeon generator that outputs to an HTML file to be appraised by the world!

To commemorate the opening of the programming forums on my website, I
am hosting a Roguelike programming contest. The objective: write a random dungeon generator in the language of your choice.

Sound easy? It’s as easy or as hard as you make it. The point is to have fun, create some interesting new dungeon designs, give you a reason to try out that algorithm that’s been in the back of your head, or even learn a new language. Because all entries are output to HTML, no mucking with I/O libraries is needed.

Deadline is August 5th, so… if you feel like creating and sharing some content, surf here, read the guidelines and go onto your quest!

Boston Roguelike Meetup June 23rd

Boston CityA roguelike meeting is being organized by Rachel Dillon (rachel at akrasiac dot org) over Boston, United States of America… consider going there if you can to chat and drink with fellow roguelikers!

Hi all! I’m organizing a Boston (MA, US) roguelike meetup where we all get together for dinner and optional drinks and talk about roguelikes for a couple of hours. Previous attempts to do this, limited to nethack, have been quite successful; hopefully this one will be too. I’m inviting everyone mostly in imitation of the London people’s doing so recently; however, I’ve also been into Crawl lately and figure hey maybe there are _other_ roguelikes, too!

My current plan is 7 PM at somewhere like Mary Chung’s or Cambridge Brewing Company, but one thing I need to figure out, because it will impact where we can get seating on a Saturday night, is: how many people are actually coming? I’ve already got seven or eight from non-RGR* places.

If you’re interested, please email me (or post here if you think other people care) and we’ll come up with a location and then I’ll post that next week, which should still give adequate time for plan-making.

If you don’t live near Boston, you’re still welcome to come, but it might be a lot of effort. Assuming it goes well, I bet we’ll even do it again.

London Roguelike Meet

LondonDavid Damarell has posted about a roguelike meeting soon to take place over London. A good chance to meet fellow roguelikers

The next London roguelike meet will be at 14:00 on Saturday 26 May in the Pembury Tavern (link). We plan to (e)at, (q)uaff and #chat about roguelikes and related topics. Look for people who are either wearing Nethack T-shirts, or just looking generally geek-like.

This used to be an rgr.nethack meet but we are getting a bit thin on the ground and always talk about Crawl anyway.
